Confirmed case of COVID-19 at St. Charles

October 28, 2020

Dear St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education learning community,

Please be advised that an adult learner at St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centre on Young Street has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last in the facility on Friday, October 23, 2020. The positive test results were confirmed by Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) late yesterday. Out of respect for the privacy of the individual, personal health information and identifiers will not be released.

As part of COVID-19 case management and infection control measures, any learners and/or staff who are required to self-isolate will be contacted directly by Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS). Persons who test positive for COVID-19 may not return to school until they are cleared by HPHS.

St. Charles will continue to follow guidance from Public Health Officials around infection prevention and control. A deep cleaning and disinfection of all areas occupied by the symptomatic individual has been initiated by the HWCDSB.

The health, safety and well-being of our learners and staff is always a priority concern for St. Charles and our school board but is especially important as we return to in-class learning during the current pandemic. We will continue to work closely with HPHS to ensure all health and safety measures are in place to prevent transmission to other individuals in our learning community. St. Charles learners and staff should continue to attend their programs, unless directed otherwise by HPHS, and to screen daily for COVID-19 symptoms on the provincial COVID-19 school screening website.

Please follow the directions provided in the COVID-19 school screening. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms, you must stay home and should get a COVID-19 test. To book a COVID-19 please go to www.HamiltonCovidTest.ca. Please inform your centre of any absences and symptoms you may be experiencing.

If you have any questions about COVID-19, please consult the Hamilton Public Health COVID-19 School Health program Hotline at 905-974-9848 (option 5) or covidschoolteam@hamilton.ca.

In closing, we want to assure you of our ongoing commitment to the health, safety and well-being of our learners and staff, and will keep you updated as more information becomes known.

Sincerely,

Mr. M. Di Vittorio
Principal
