St. Charles credit students at our 150 East 5th Street location were recently treated to a informative and essential Resume and Job Interview Skills workshop. Monica Romeo, the Founder/Certified Image Consultant from The Image Consultancy ran the class and had a lot of knowledge to share. Students learned a lot about how to create impressive resumes and succeed in job interviews.
When asked what the top 5 things job seekers should know, Ms. Romeo sent us this:
1. Key Words: The job posting holds all the key words necessary to quickly catch the eye of the recruiter or move you through the electronic Applicant Tracking System
2. First Impression: Impressions are formed within 7 seconds. Focus on the A,B,C's of Image Consulting; Appearance, Behaviour, and Communication skills to make a positive first impression
3. Thank You Note: Always follow up an interview with a Thank You note and be sure to send the note within 24 hours of the interview.
4: Spring Clean your Social Media: 93% of recruiters will search your social media, delete questionable post and/or adjust privacy settings.
5. Prepare for the interview: Practice makes perfect, and it definitely helps you succeed in the interview. Utilize the job posting to anticipate interview questions and prepare and rehearse your responses in a mock interview. Remember, success happens with preparation meets opportunity!
